New releases: Downloads coming on waiver wire
Posted: May 24, 2005
These players could end up on a waiver wire near you as victims of the last phase of the free-agent season: the June 1 cuts. To save cap space for 2005, teams will dump players who have salary, health or performance issues and might no longer fit into their plans. But that doesn't mean they can't help someone else.
Offense
RB Charlie Garner, Bucs Cadillac Williams makes him expendable, but Garner still could help a team as a change-of-pace back.
RT Scott Gragg, 49ers Last season wasn't his best, but he's durable and usually is consistent.
WR Johnnie Morton, Chiefs He made some tough catches in clutch situations last season and still can be a solid possession receiver.
OT Todd Steussie, Bucs He isn't comfortable on the right side and no longer can hold up on the left. He could be valuable backup.
LG Matt Stinchcomb, Bucs He played every down at left guard last year; alas, he played almost every down poorly.
RT Kyle Turley, Rams A back injury has threatened the career of this elite blocker. He needs to gain a lot of weight.
WR Peter Warrick, Bengals He's a productive slot man who is quick and has great cutting ability but hasn't been cleared to play (shin).
Defense
DT Wendell Bryant, Cardinals Has shown better dedication after three mostly lost years. His release would leave the team thin inside.
FS Mike Logan, Steelers Injuries have limited his playing time and effectiveness, and the team has capable replacements.
DE Calvin Pace, Cardinals Like Bryant, he's a former first-rounder. Pace largely is a situational pass rusher.
S Lance Schulters, Titans Schulters, who's healthy after missing much of '04 (foot), is a solid blitzer and is good in run support.
