Will take six kids from Salt Lake City to Manchester, England, this summer for his basketball clinic, held in a gym he built with his own funds. Paid for gifts, dinner and unlimited phone calls for 13 families at Christmas.


DARRELL ARMSTRONG, G, Magic
This is the fourth year of Armstrong's Allies, which partners with a local juvenile detention center to provide incentives for troubled youngsters to change. Raises money for families with premature babies. Provides holiday meals for needy kids and seniors.


ELTON BRAND, F, Clippers
Has donated free lifetime use of MathMastery.com program to 10 Los Angeles schools. Sponsored free youth day, including a basketball clinic and concert. Made a $10,000 grant to a Chicago group that teaches life skills to needy kids.


VLADE DIVAC, C, Kings
Gave $10,000 after September 11 to clothe 10,000 Afghan children for the winter. Drives efforts through his foundation to provide clothes, toys and home placement of orphans in his home country of Yugoslavia.


CHRIS DUDLEY, C, Trail Blazers
A diabetic who concentrates on helping children who also have the ailment. Runs a weeklong hoops camp for diabetic kids; 64 attend. Pays some or all of the cost. Mixes instruction with tips on diet, disease control and activity success.


TIM DUNCAN, C, Spurs
Bowling tournament has raised $325,000 for cancer-related charities in honor of his mother, who died from breast cancer. Golf tournament has raised another $108,000. Has installed the first wood basketball court in St. Croix, Virgin Islands.


ADONAL FOYLE, F, Warriors
His foundation, Democracy Matters, is dedicated to increasing voter registration and encouraging grassroots involvement in campaign finance reform movement through political action groups on college campuses.


BRIAN GRANT, F, Heat
Has expanded his community work to Miami after years of service in Portland, Ore. Delivers food to homeless. Donated $25,000 for tickets for needy kids. Backs programs that include Adopt-A-Family and bone marrow drives.


ALLAN HOUSTON, G, Knicks
Promotes "My Teacher is a Hero" award that honors New York City teachers nominated through essays from students. Also backs Courtside Classroom, which rewards academic excellence. Donated four tickets to all home games for families directly affected by September 11.


GEORGE LYNCH, F, Hornets
Bought and gave out 300 Thanksgiving turkeys to housing authority residents. Bought and handed out 350 books as Christmas presents. Spent a day at jail to encourage inmates to read to their kids during visits.


KARL MALONE, F, Jazz
Provides a Christmas celebration for patients hospitalized during holidays. Invites Make-A-Wish kids to his home. Pays bills and provides other services for needy, usually anonymously. Sponsored 30 kids for a game hunt in Utah, spending $50,000.


STEPHON MARBURY, G, Suns
Hosts StarburyLand, a free interactive basketball carnival in New York for more than 2,000 inner-city kids. Took 40 kids to his mother's house in Maryland for fun and food, then to the Poconos for a week at basketball camp.

Desmond Mason - Good Guy

DESMOND MASON, F, SuperSonics
Probably the league's most active community service participant. Averages around eight community appearances per month during the season. Gives art lessons to needy kids, has a bowling tournament and holds basketball camp.


RON MERCER, G, Pacers
Fed 300 needy adults and children at Easter and included school supplies for kids. Bought and helped distribute Thanksgiving dinner to 200 needy adults and kids. Provided backpacks and supplies for 800 other kids.


GLENN ROBINSON, F, Bucks
Gives scholarships to 220 needy kids for his basketball camp, including transportation and food. Donated a scoreboard to Boys & Girls Club. Bused needy kids from Gary, Ind., to Milwaukee for a Bucks game.


JALEN ROSE, G, Bulls
Holds a two-day summer basketball camp that includes high-risk boys who are athletically ineligible because of grades. Has made a $25,000 grant to youth programs, targeting kids from single-parent homes. Spent $10,000 on holiday gifts for at-risk kids.


ERIC SNOW, G, 76ers
Has started a program to celebrate everyday fathers who fulfill their family obligations, his way of supporting two-parent families. Treats a different father and son to tickets for every game and trips to Philadelphia landmarks.


JERRY STACKHOUSE, G, Pistons
Helped organize a wheelchair basketball game for Michigan hospital that raised $24,000. Heavily involved in working for diabetes prevention and a cure in honor of two sisters who died from diabetes complications.


ANTOINE WALKER, F, Celtics
Sponsors camps in Boston and Chicago that are free to inner-city kids; they also receive gear and food. Sends an AAU basketball team each season to a national tournament in Las Vegas. Rewards middle school kids who become involved in the community.


JEROME WILLIAMS, F, Raptors
Backs three major Detroit community projects: a homework club that rewards work done at Boys & Girls Club; seminars that teach kids how to balance their lives, and a program that educates teens on such subjects as credit awareness and resumes.
