PETER BONDRA, LW, Capitals
Has helped raise more than $200,000 for local children's charities. Has given $130,000 to the Children's Inn at National Institutes of Health, which houses sick kids undergoing special treatment. Visits the Inn every Christmas Day and gives out gifts.

RON FRANCIS, C, Hurricanes
Creates a special night for more than 60 sick kids from a local hospital, providing everything from limo rides to dinner to a game seat in his suite at the arena. Has hands-on involvement with numerous other charity endeavors and fund-raisers.


ADAM GRAVES, LW, Sharks
A long-time community activist in New York who brought the same attitude to San Jose, Calif., urging teammates to get involved. Gave gifts to an adopted family. Bought hockey equipment for kids. Brought in 3,000 toys in four hours for Toys for Tots.


JAROME IGINLA, RW, Flames
Contributes to diabetes research. Helps fund a Calgary program that encourages kids to play sports. All proceeds from his hockey school go to diabetes research. Makes unannounced hospital visits.


MARIO LEMIEUX, C, Penguins
Gave $5 million to the University of Pittsburgh for Centers for Patient Care and Research, which is named after him. Has raised more than $3 million with a golf tournament for neonatal and Hodgkin's disease research.


DEREK MORRIS, D, Flames
Had epilepsy as a child and now is raising funds for research. Donated about $100,000 last year to charities, including Salvation Army and Kids Up Front Society, which allows needy kids and their families to see a Flames game.


JEFF ODGERS, RW, Thrashers
Approached his team community relations department to take on more civic involvement. Coached a Special Olympics hockey team, even showing up at practice a day after a concussion. Raises money for recreational facilities in his hometown in Saskatchewan.


SHJON PODEIN, LW, Blues
Helping to find cure for ataxia, a rare genetic neurological disorder. Has given more than $160,000 in grants to children's charities in Minnesota and has raised more than $300,000 total for charities. Funded two inner-city Denver youth hockey teams.


ROB RAY, RW, Sabres
Has extensive involvement with numerous Buffalo-area charities. His golf tournament has raised $350,000 to fight birth defects. Has helped raise $1 million for cancer research. Led a drive that resulted in Christmas gifts and food for 54 families.


DAVE SCATCHARD, C, Islanders
Made almost weekly visits to the home of a 17-year-old boy dying of cancer. When the teen passed away, Scatchard went to the home and stayed for 12 hours, playing with his siblings despite a game the night before and practice earlier in the day.


JAMIE STORR, G, Kings
Concentrates on creating diversity in hockey. One of only four players of Japanese descent in the NHL. Hosted a clinic for 25 Japanese-American children. Followed up by helping lead a similar clinic at the NHL All-Star Game.


RHETT WARRENER, D, Sabres
Since a hospital visit with young girl facing major cancer surgery, has helped raise more than $300,000 for her foundation, which supports cancer research. The young girl already had lost her mom and dad to cancer but now is a survivor.


TYLER WRIGHT, C, Blue Jackets
Helped raise a $25,000 grant for a local children's hospital. Helped raise $27,000 at two functions for Hats for Heroes, which provides novel hats to sick kids. Concentrates on pediatric cancer, making monthly hospital visits.
