ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Aaron Baddeley got off to a slow start Friday in the PGA Championship, penalized two strokes for being 40 seconds late for his tee time.
Baddeley, a 22-year-old Australian playing in his first PGA Championship, had a 1-under 69 at Oak Hill in the first round and was just three strokes out of the lead.
He was in the first group of the day at 7:30 a.m., starting at No. 10.
PGA rules official Ralph Bernhisel said players must be on the tee box when their starting time arrives, regardless of whether their name is announced.
"He actually made a statement that he thought his time was 7:35 a.m.," Bernhisel said. "Do we like to do it? It's our worst nightmare. The unfortunate thing is he was the first group of the day."
Baddeley made par on the 10th hole, but had to take a double-bogey 6.
