MILAN, Italy -- Christian Vieri has torn ligaments in his right knee and will miss the rest of the Italian League season.

Vieri, who leads the league with 24 goals for Internazionale of Milan, was hurt shortly after scoring the decisive goal Tuesday night against Valencia that advanced his team to the semifinals of the European Champions Cup.

Inter's Web site said Wednesday that Vieri must wear a brace on the knee for three weeks, and that he will need additional time to regain strength in his leg.

With five games remaining, Vieri was nine goals short of the Italian first division record, set by Inter's Antonio Valentin Angelillo in 1958-59.
