LONDON -- Chelsea failed to win for the first time this season in the Premier League, with Andy Cole of Blackburn scoring twice in a 2-2 tie Saturday.

Adrian Mutu and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored for Chelsea, which won its first two league games before the tie at home. Hasselbaink's penalty kick in the 63rd minute closed the scoring.

Chelsea, under Russian magnate Roman Abramovich, has spent more than $160 million building its roster. Newly signed Argentine star Hernan Crespo entered as a second-half substitute. Hours earlier, Chelsea agreed to terms with Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele.

Michael Owen scored twice to help Liverpool defeat crosstown rival Everton 3-0 for the Reds' first victory this season. Newcastle fell 1-0 to Birmingham, with David Dunn scoring in the 61st minute. Fulham beat Tottenham 3-0 for its first league victory at White Hart Lane since 1948.

In other Premier League games, it was: Aston Villa 3, Leicester 1; Bolton 0, Charlton 0; Leeds 3, Middlesbrough 2; and Wolverhampton 0, Portsmouth 0.

Arsenal and Manchester United lead the standings with 3-0 records and nine points. Both play Sunday -- Arsenal at Manchester City and Man United at Southampton.

In Scotland, Henrik Larsson's hat trick led Celtic past Livingston 5-1. Aberdeen tied 1-1 at Hibernian and Partick played to a 2-2 tie at Motherwell.
