SAN DIEGO -- Angela Hucles was traded from the Boston Breakers to the San Diego Spirit on Wednesday for Aly Wagner, the WUSA's overall No. 1 draft pick this year, and a second-round choice in 2004.

The deal was a swap of national team midfielders. Wagner scored in Monday's 5-0 win over Costa Rica.

Hucles, a three-year WUSA veteran, had one goal and four assists for the Breakers last season. Her 20 points (six goals, eight assists) rank her fourth on Boston's career scoring list.

Wagner started 20 games for the Spirit as a rookie, finishing with two goals and four assists.

San Diego acquired the rights to the 23-year-old Wagner last September in one of the biggest trades in WUSA history. The Spirit traded three players and the No. 2 pick in the draft to New York for its No. 1 selection and two players.
