Semifinal matches set for Open Cup

CHICAGO -- The Los Angeles Galaxy will visit the Chicago Fire and the MetroStars will host D.C. United in the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Galaxy-Fire game will be played Sept. 23 in Naperville, Ill. The United will play at the MetroStars on Oct. 1 at Piscataway, N.J.

The final is Oct. 15.

Los Angeles beat Chicago in the Open Cup final in 2001. The Fire won the tournament in 1998 and 2000.

Dating back to 1914, the Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in U.S. soccer and is among the oldest in the world.
