Tursunov, Karlovic advance to finals of USTA Bronx Classic

NEW YORK -- Dimitry Tursunov of Sacramento, Calif., defeated Julien Valet of France 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-2 to advance to the finals of the USTA Bronx Classic on Saturday.

The Russian-born Tursunov will face Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in Sunday's final. Karlovic outlasted Cecil Mamiit, the former NCAA singles champion at Southern California 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5).

In women's action, Maria Kirilenko of Russia held a 6-3, 1-0 lead when No. 7 seed Lindsay Lee-Waters of Dunwoody, Ga., retired because of a leg injury. Kirilenko will take on Gie Zheng of China, who breezed past Adriana Serra-Zanetti of Italy 6-4, 6-2.
